In honor of National Hurricane Preparedness week, Davis Insurance Associates wants to remind everyone of the importance of being prepared.  Hurricane season begins on June 1st and runs through November 30th, and it is critical for those who live in coastal areas to plan early.

Here are few tips from FEMA so you can be prepared:

Determine Your Risk - It’s not just those along the coast that can experience significant, life-threatening impacts.  Evaluate what you need to do to protect your home and family, before the first storm of the season even forms.

Develop an Evacuation Plan - If you are in a hurricane evacuation zone, or in a home that would be otherwise unsafe in a hurricane think about where you’d go and how you’d get there if you're told to evacuate.

Assemble Disaster Supplies - Just having enough supplies to make it through a hurricane isn’t enough.  You need plenty to make it through what could be a long recovery period too.  Prepare for AT LEAST one week.

Get An Insurance Checkup - Keep in mind that standard homeowners insurance doesn’t cover flooding, and a NFIP flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period!  Don’t worry though, Davis Insurance Associates has access to a private market flood program, so we have the option to provide you with immediate flood coverage (as long as there is not a storm closely approaching).

Strengthen Your Home - Can your home withstand a hurricane?  Make sure it is up to local hurricane building code specifications.  Remember, the garage door is the most vulnerable part of the home, so it must be able to withstand high winds.

Help Your Neighbor - You can play a large role in how your neighbors fare before, during and after a hurricane.

Complete A Written Plan - The time to prepare for a hurricane is before the season begins.  Once you’re under pressure, having a written plan will take the guesswork out of what you need to do to protect you and your family.

Here at Davis Insurance Associates we want to make sure that you and your family are properly informed and protected for this hurricane season.  For more information regarding hurricane preparedness, home or flood insurance please give us a call at (843) 213-0000 or visit us at  Let us provide you with peace of mind at a price that’s right for you.
